7 Days to Die guide

How to move your 7 Days to Die save to a dedicated server

Carry on with the same 7 Days to Die game on a server that's online for the whole group. The save goes up as one zip, together with its random world if it uses one.

Find your save

On Windows, 7 Days to Die keeps saves in %APPDATA%\7DaysToDie\Saves. Inside is a folder for each world (Navezgane, or a random world's name), and inside that a folder for each save.

A random world also has its own folder in %APPDATA%\7DaysToDie\GeneratedWorlds, with the same name. The save needs it. On another host, download the same folders from its Saves and GeneratedWorlds.

Zip it

  1. Make a folder. Make a new folder, and inside it two more: Saves and GeneratedWorlds.
  2. Copy the save. Copy the world's folder from Saves (for example Saves\Navezgane) into the new Saves folder, and delete any other saves from the copy, so just yours is left.
  3. Copy a random world. For a random world, copy its folder from GeneratedWorlds into the new GeneratedWorlds folder. Navezgane needs nothing here.
  4. Zip it. Zip the new folder.

Upload it

  1. Set the World. In Settings, set World to the world the save was made in (Navezgane, or the random world's name), and press Save configuration. The save takes your server's Save name, so you don't need to change that.
  2. Upload the zip. In your dashboard, open your server's Files & SFTP tab, choose world-imports/ as the upload folder and press Upload to world-imports. The browser takes files up to 96 MB. For a bigger world, press Generate SFTP credentials and upload the zip to the world-imports folder with FileZilla or WinSCP, up to 16 GB.
  3. Wait for the safety scan. Every upload is scanned before your server gets it. Press Refresh until the zip shows Passed safety scan.
  4. Stop and start the server. Press Stop, then Start. As the server starts, the world in the zip replaces the server's world, and the Console says when it's imported. The next backup keeps it.

Good to know

  • Characters are saved in the save's Player folder, so they come with it.
  • Mods the save was played with go in Mods/, in Files & SFTP or over SFTP. Every player needs the same mods for client-side content.
  • Upload one zip at a time. If world-imports holds more than one, the server imports none of them and clears the folder.
  • If a zip can't be imported, the server starts with its current world and the Console says why. Fix the zip and upload it again.
7 Days to Die questions

Good to know.

What if I forget the GeneratedWorlds folder?

The save still imports, but a random world needs its generated map. The Console says so, and you can upload a zip with both again.

What if World doesn't match the save?

The save still goes in, under the world it was made in, and the Console tells you which World to set. Set it in Settings and restart.

How big can the zip be?

Up to 96 MB in the browser, and up to 16 GB over SFTP.
