Which games can move a world
- Minecraft Bedrock (Xbox, PlayStation, Switch): both ways, through a Realm and a Windows PC.
- Valheim (Xbox): through the Xbox app version of Valheim on a Windows PC. PlayStation 5 and Switch 2 worlds can't be moved.
- Factorio (Switch): through a PC running the same version on your home network.
- Palworld (Xbox): to your server only, with community tools that aren't official.
Other games keep console worlds on the console. Some of them let console players join your server instead: see the end of this guide.
Minecraft Bedrock: through a Realm
- Put the world in a Realm. On the console, open Play, choose your Realm, then Edit World > Replace World and pick the world. This needs a Realms subscription.
- Download it on Windows. In Minecraft for Windows, signed in to the same Microsoft account, open the Realm's Edit World screen and choose Download World.
- Export it. Open the downloaded world's Edit screen and choose Export World. This saves a .mcworld file.
- Upload it to your server. A .mcworld file is a zip: rename it to .zip, unzip it, and upload the folder to worlds in your server's file manager or over SFTP. Set World folder in Settings to the folder's name, then restart.
To go back, zip the world folder's contents, rename the zip to .mcworld and open it in Minecraft for Windows. Use Replace World to put it in the Realm, then download it on the console.
Minecraft Bedrock on Xbox, PlayStation and Switch can't add a server address, so console players can't join your server directly. Players on Windows, phones and tablets can.
Valheim: Xbox worlds, through a Windows PC
- Install the Xbox app version. On a Windows PC, install Valheim from the Xbox app (PC Game Pass or a Microsoft Store copy) and sign in with your Xbox's Microsoft account. Your Xbox worlds appear there.
- Move the world to the PC. In Valheim, open Manage saves, choose the world and select Move to local. Its files are then in %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\worlds_local.
- Upload it. Stop your server and upload the world (its folder, or its .db and .fwl files) to valheim/worlds_local in the file manager or over SFTP. Set World name in Settings to the world's name, then start the server.
- Join from the Xbox. Keep Crossplay on in Settings. Xbox players join with the crossplay join code shown under your connect address.
To take a world back to the Xbox, put its files in the same folder on the PC and use Manage saves to move it to the cloud. We haven't tested this direction, so keep a copy first.
Factorio: Switch, through a PC on your network
- Match the versions. Run exactly the same version of Factorio on a PC and the Switch, on the same home network. Download your server's save .zip to the PC from the file manager.
- Name both players. On each, open Settings > Other and give it its own LAN player name.
- Host it on the PC. Choose Multiplayer > Host saved game and pick the save. Untick Public, tick LAN and untick Verify user identity.
- Join and save on the Switch. On the Switch, browse LAN games, join the game and save it there.
To bring a Switch world to your server, do it the other way round: host on the Switch, join from the PC, save it on the PC and upload the .zip in your server's file manager. Factorio has no official way to do this, so keep a copy of your save.
Palworld: Xbox worlds
Palworld's Xbox saves sync to its Xbox app version on a Windows PC. Community tools can convert that save into the files a dedicated server uses, which you then upload in the file manager. The tools aren't official, so back up first.
You may not need to move it at all: new Palworld servers have crossplay on (Settings > Crossplay platforms), so Xbox and PlayStation 5 players can join your server.
Console players who can join your server
- Valheim: PC and Xbox players, with the crossplay join code. Valheim 1.0 also brought crossplay to PlayStation 5 and Switch 2.
- Palworld: Xbox, PlayStation 5 and PC players, with crossplay on.
- Arma Reforger: Xbox, PlayStation and PC players, with Crossplay on in Settings.
- Enshrouded: PlayStation 5 players, on a server ordered for PS5. PC and PS5 players can't play together.
- RuneScape: Dragonwilds: PlayStation 5 players can join.
For Satisfactory, Terraria, ARK: Survival Evolved, Conan Exiles, Core Keeper, Don't Starve Together, DayZ, Rust, Unturned and V Rising, we don't know of a way to move a console world to a server, and their console players can't join PC servers. Start a new world on the server, or upload a PC world.
