Sons of the Forest guide

How to move your Sons of the Forest save to a dedicated server

A dedicated server carries on one save slot. Put your multiplayer save in that slot and the island picks up where your group left it.

Find your save

On Windows, saves are in %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Endnight\SonsOfTheForest\Saves, in a folder named with your Steam ID. Multiplayer games are in its Multiplayer folder, one 10-digit folder per save, each holding SaveData.zip.

On another dedicated server, the saves are in Saves\DedicatedServer\Multiplayer. Keep a copy of the save before you move it.

Upload it

  1. Stop the server. Press Stop in your dashboard.
  2. Create an SFTP login. In Files & SFTP, press Generate SFTP credentials and connect with FileZilla or WinSCP.
  3. Upload the save. Open sotf/Saves/DedicatedServer/Multiplayer and upload your save's folder there, named 0000000001: that's the slot the server carries on. If a 0000000001 folder is already there, replace what's in it.
  4. Start the server. Press Start. The server continues the save in that slot.

Good to know

  • A world keeps the game mode it was made with. Game mode in Settings only applies to a new world.
  • Add your group's Steam64 IDs under Owners in Settings to give them admin rights in game.
  • Each save leaves a timestamped backup zip beside it, and the server keeps the five newest. Warp Hosting's own backups are in the Backups tab.
Sons of the Forest questions

Good to know.

Why 0000000001?

A dedicated server carries on the save in slot 1, the folder named 0000000001, so your save goes there.

Can I upload it in the browser?

Use SFTP. A save is a folder, and SFTP uploads it in one go, up to 2 GB per file.
