How to add Steam Workshop mods to a DayZ server

On a Warp Hosting DayZ server you add mods from the Steam Workshop in your dashboard. Warp downloads and checks each mod, puts its keys in place, and players' DayZ Launcher offers them the same mods when they join.

Add a mod

  1. Open the Mods tab. Select your server in the dashboard and open Mods. It's also under Quick actions on the Overview.
  2. Find the mod. Type in the box that says "Search the Workshop, or paste a link" and press Search, or paste the mod's Steam Workshop link or item number and press Add mod.
  3. Add it. Press Add on the mod you want. If it needs other Workshop items, they're added for you, ahead of it in the list.
  4. Wait for Ready, then restart. The server downloads and checks each mod. When every mod shows Ready, restart the server: a server only loads mods that are Ready when it starts.

Load order

DayZ loads mods from the top of the list down, so a mod must come after the mods it needs, such as Community Framework (CF). Required items are added ahead of the mod that needs them; use the ↑ and ↓ buttons to change the rest. The new order applies at the next restart.

Server-only mods

Some mods run on the server alone, and players never download them. Tick Server only beside such a mod: the server loads it with -serverMod, so players don't need it. Tick it only when the mod's Workshop page says it's server-side: a mod players need must stay unticked.

Keys and signatures

DayZ servers check each mod against its key, the .bikey file that comes with it. The server copies every mod's keys into place at each start, so there's nothing to copy by hand.

Mods that change mission files

Some mods ask you to add their items to db/types.xml or lines to init.c. Both are in your map's mission folder, such as mpmissions/dayzOffline.chernarusplus for Chernarus. Open the file in Files & SFTP and choose Edit, make the change and save it, or upload a changed copy to the same place over SFTP. Changes apply at the next start.

Uploading a mod yourself

You can also upload a mod's folder to mods over SFTP, copied from the !Workshop folder in DayZ's own install, with its addons, keys and meta.cpp. Then list the folder's name, such as @CF, in Settings under Mods, or under Server-only mods, in load order. These load after your Workshop mods, and if a listed folder hasn't been uploaded, the server won't start and says which one.

What players need

Players join through the DayZ Launcher, which offers them your server's mods when they join, so nobody has to find them first. Server-only mods stay on the server.

Updates

When a mod updates on Steam, Warp fetches and checks the new version within about 30 minutes; press Check for updates on the Mods tab to ask Steam straight away. Until the new version is Ready, the one already checked keeps loading. Players' launchers download the newest version, so restart the server once the update shows Ready.

Map mods

Map mods, which need a mission of their own, aren't supported yet. Settings offers DayZ's own maps: Chernarus, Livonia, Sakhal and Nasdara.

DayZ questions

Good to know.

How many mods can a DayZ server have?

Up to 40 Workshop mods, each up to 8 GB.

Do players need to subscribe to the mods?

No. The DayZ Launcher offers players your server's mods when they join. Server-only mods stay on the server.

Why isn't a mod loading?

Check that it shows Ready, that you restarted after it did, and that it comes after the mods it needs. A mod showing Download failed or Blocked by the file check says why: the server starts without it, or with the version it checked before.

Can I add a Workshop collection?

Not in one go. Add its mods one at a time: the mods each one requires come with it.
