How to move your Enshrouded world to a dedicated server

Started your world on your own PC? You can carry on with the same world on a dedicated server that stays online for your whole group. This guide covers PC (Steam) worlds.

Find your save on your PC

Enshrouded keeps its saves in your Steam folder, under userdata, then your Steam account number, then 1203620\remote. On most PCs that's C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\<number>\1203620\remote. If you play with Steam Cloud turned off, also look in Saved Games\Enshrouded in your Windows user folder.

A world saved by Enshrouded 1.0 is a file called world0.ksd. An older world is a pair of files named like 3ad85aea and 3ad85aea-index. Copy them somewhere safe before you start, so you always have your own copy.

Upload it

  1. Open Files. In your dashboard, select your Enshrouded server and open Files & SFTP.
  2. Choose the save folder. Change the folder from config/ to enshrouded/savegame/, press Upload to enshrouded/savegame and pick your file. Upload one file at a time and keep its exact name: a renamed copy such as "world0 (1).ksd" isn't accepted.
  3. Wait for the safety scan. Every upload is scanned before your server gets it. Wait until the file shows Passed safety scan.
  4. Restart the server. Restart the server from the dashboard. Your world is put in place as the server starts. The upload is used once: after that, restarts carry on from your latest progress, and the world is backed up every time the server stops.

After the first start

Join the server and check that it's the world you expected. If something isn't right, upload the file again and restart, or stop the server and restore an earlier backup from Backups.

Each upload can be up to 256 MB, which is plenty for an Enshrouded world. Enshrouded servers use the browser file manager rather than SFTP.

Enshrouded questions

Good to know.

Do I need to stop the server first?

No. The upload waits until the server next starts, so you can upload while it's running and then restart it.

What if I upload the wrong file?

Upload the right one and restart again: the server uses the newest upload. Every stop also makes a backup you can restore.
