Set up your server
- Order the server. Choose RimWorld, a location close to your group and a plan. RimWorld runs on each player's PC, so the Starter plan suits most groups.
- Name it. In Settings, set the Server name (up to 40 characters) and a Description players see when they look at your server.
- Set the player slots. Up to 100 players can be connected at once; it starts at 20.
- Add your links. Mod collection takes a Steam Workshop collection of your server's mods, and Discord invite a link to your community. Players see both.
- Save and restart. Press Save configuration and restart the server. Settings take effect at the next start.
Create the planet
A new server has no world yet. The first player to join creates the shared planet and is made admin, so join first yourself, with the mods you mean to use. Until the planet exists, the server lets in only that first player.
Admins, mods and the console
Type op and a player's name in the dashboard console to make them an admin; kick, ban and broadcast work there too. Ban players by name, not by IP address, as players can reach the server through a shared address.
Admins open the admin panel in game (with development mode on, top right) to upload the server's modlist, storyteller and difficulty. The server checks every player's mods against that list, so link a Steam Workshop collection of them in Settings for players to subscribe to all at once.
How players join
Each player subscribes to RimWorld Together on the Steam Workshop, turns it on in RimWorld's mod list with your server's other mods, then chooses Connect from the main menu and enters the connect address from your dashboard. The first time, they register a username and password for your server.
Bring an existing server
Stop the server, then over SFTP upload the old server's Assets folder into Assets/ and its Configs folder into Configs/, and start it. The name, description, player slots and links still come from Settings.
Updates
Each start fetches the newest RimWorld Together server, matching the mod players get from the Steam Workshop. If players see a version mismatch after the mod updates, restart the server.
